About this blog

This is mostly a diversion where I’ll ruminate on matters of higher education, international politics and economics, and other stuff as it strikes my fancy.

About the name of the blog: I’ll probably change it, but I hope we can be reminded that education is about the original meaning of liberal: ” from O.Fr. liberal “befitting free men, noble, generous,” from L. liberalis “noble, generous,” lit. “pertaining to a free man,” from liber “free.

I’m the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at Hilbert College in Hamburg, NY. I am a proud husband, father, and alumnus of the University of North Carolina and the University of Chicago.
